EV versus petrol guide

The right choice depends on how you drive, where you park, how you charge and how long you plan to keep the car. A cheap EV is not automatically cheaper for every driver, and a petrol car is not automatically simpler for every household.

Charging access

If you can charge at home, an EV may be much easier to live with. If you rely mainly on public rapid charging, cost and convenience can change quickly.

Mileage pattern

EVs often suit regular local mileage. Long motorway trips, towing, winter range and charging stops should be considered before choosing a model.

Total cost

Compare purchase price, finance, insurance, maintenance, charging or fuel, depreciation and any home charger cost. The best answer is usually based on total ownership cost, not just fuel savings.

Comfort and use

Boot space, rear-seat room, visibility, ride comfort and infotainment matter just as much as the drivetrain. The car has to work on ordinary days, not just in a spreadsheet.
